It was much later I realized\u2014
we were living outside Provo\u2014<\/p>

\n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

that everything around us
was imagined: stepping<\/p>

\n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

from the shower,
sipping coffee, the moon \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

swelling its anthem after dark.
And when we closed our eyes, \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

what existed was the way
Utah Lake was surrounded\n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

on three sides by mountains,
how we stood at the shore \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

and gazed at the flatness of the water,
the Wasatch peaks. And in this reverie \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

we whispered: Dear Liquid, Dear Mud.<\/em>
And what, we asked, of the supplications\n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

of the flesh, the contusions
of breaths that make a life?\n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

And before you packed your car
then returned to Ohio, \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

what you pinned
to the refrigerator \n<\/p>

<\/span><\/p>\n

began like this:
Dear Me, Dear You.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\n\t<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
