This cloud was refurbished
\nby an online merchant
\nwho works days as the moon's half-eaten orange
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

and blinks in near-perfect intervals.
\nHis taste in atheleisure's renown.
\nHe wants you to notice
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

his detailed attention to things
\nbut not desperately so.
\nHe wants you to note
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

his ham-fisted means of time-keeping,
\nslightly slantindicular
\nand at a purposeful remove.
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

He\u2019s writing a novella
\nhe\u2019ll never read aloud
\nbecause he can\u2019t pronounce the word thistle<\/em>.
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s about a podcast host
\nwho asks celebrities
\nlike McConaughey and Chalamet
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

what words they trip over most,
\nlaughs as they stumble to spit them out,
\nand then pleasantly analyzes
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

meanings the words may hold
\nbefore they strip off their clothes
\nand metamorphose to dark green fritillaries.
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

When he gets home
\nhis husband boils the water
\nand they slip out of life like a t-shirt.
<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\n\t<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Poet's Statement: Honestly, I don\u2019t put a lot of thought into what I write. I write from a compulsion and hope something interesting presents itself. That said, to me, this poem addresses the entanglements of identity and self-erasure. With varying degrees of recalcitrance, people desire to make marks\u2014to make a mark professionally or creatively or whatever\u2014but we also feel the balm of letting go, an urge that can arise almost concurrently to disappear into work, love, celebrity podcasts, or little green butterflies.<\/p>\n
